How to Freeze a Column and a Row Simultaneously in Excel

To improve usability, there may be times when you not only want to freeze a row in Excel, but a column, too, so that labels remain visible during scrolling.  Fortunately, doing so is very easy.  All you have to do is click on the cell below and to the right of the intersection of the frozen row and column.  See below:

To freeze row 1 and column A, I click on cell B2 to make it active, then go to freeze panes to freeze column A and row 1.

Highlight intersection cell:


Then freeze:
