Static Time Excel

Excel's NOW function displays the current date and time formatted according to the regional options you've set for Windows.

If you just want to see only the date, instead use the TODAY function.

You can't use either of these functions as a timestamp, though, because they automatically update when your spreadsheet is calculated or re-opened. For example, a cell displaying today's date will display tomorrow's date if you open the spreadsheet tomorrow.

To insert a date that won't change into a cell, hold down Ctrl while pressing the semicolon ( ;) key. To insert the current time sans date, press Ctrl-Shift-Semicolon.
